Pollution of oil fields by norm and related doses
(Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Institute of Radiation Problems ve Turkish Atomic Energy Authority, 2006) Huseynov, V. I.; Guliyev, R. I.; Guliyev, E. G.; Naghiyev, J. A.; Jafarov, Y. D.; Bölüm Yok
Peculiarities of pollution of oil production fields by naturally occurring radionuclides were investigated. It is established, that produced water is a main source of this pollution. Gamma-radiation background survey showed that pollution mainly has localized character and radioactive spots have sizes from few centimeters up to several meters and are separated each from other by hundreds meters. Levels of soil pollution in such spots were determined using gamma spectrometry. Using these results, exposure, equivalent and effective dose rates and annual effective dose were modeled. It is established that only spots with maximal observed levels of pollution and mean diameters more than 40 m can cause annual effective doses inside the spot exceeding limits allowed in Radiation Safety Standards.
