Abstract
In Swiss Albino rats by depressing erythropoietic activity with 650 rads whole - body X-irradiation and transplanting different number of syngenic nucleated bone-marrow cells after irradiation to see whether the total uptake of Fe - 59 into erythropoietic tissue or heme fraction uptake of Fe - 59 is a reliable measure for erythropoiesis and heme synthesis. The results obtained showed that the total iron uptake or uptake into heme in erythropoietic tissues can be used as a measure of erythropoiesis and heme synthesis in these rats.
