| dc.description.abstract | In this study, the adsorption effect of 137Cs on Sogut clay was studied using both the batch method and the column methods separately, and the results were compared. In the batch method, five different clay sizes and six different initial concentrations were studied, and in column method, however, three different clay sizes and two different initial concentrations were studied. In batch experiments, liquid/solid ratio and contact time was determined as 250 ml/g and 60 min, respectively. Ads% and Kd values were calculated according to adsorption experiment results. It was that as clay size got smaller, Ads% increased, but Kd decreased. Higher initial concentrations were also observed to bring about higher Xm but lower Ads% and Kd. Langmuir isotherm was applied to batch method and then the sorption and desorption capacity of the clay was calculated by least squares method. These parameters were observed to increase as the clay sizes decrease. In the column method, a CsCl solution with some radioactive nuclide was passed through a 5 g of clay sample at 0,045 dmVh speed. The results were evaluated using breakthrough curve, and the method was seen to deliver similar results to those with batch. As a result of both the methods, the Sogut ceramic clay was found to be a good sorption capacity and a rapid sorption rate for Cs. Comparing the 137Cs amounts sorbed per unit clay and decontamination factors, batch method, which may be criticized for not representing the real field conditions, was seen to show higher adsorbing capacity for the clay. | tr_TR |
