Genetic Algorithm (GA) based systems are used for the loading pattern optimization. The use of
Genetic Algorithm operators such as regional crossover, crossover and mutation, and selection
of initial population size for PWRs are discussed. Antithetic variates are used to generate the
initial population. The performance of GA with antithetic variates is compared to traditional
GA. The results of multi-cycle optimization are discussed for objective function taking into
account cycle bum-up and discharge bum-up.

Neutron transport equation is simulated using parallel Monte Carlo method for deep penetration
neutron transport problem. Monte Carlo simulation is parallelized by using three different
techniques; direct parallelization, domain decomposition and domain decomposition with load
balancing, which are used with PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) software on LAN (Local Area
Network). The results of parallel simulation are given for various model problems. The
performances of the parallelization techniques are compared with each other. Moreover, the
effects of variance reduction techniques on parallelization are discussed
