Item Determination of 210Po in fertilizers by electrochemical deposition method(Turkish Atomic Energy Authority, 2000-10) Özalp, N.; Saç, M.; Tanbay, A.; Yener, G.; Bölüm YokIn this study, activities of radioactive polonium and natural radionuclide concentrations in fertilizer most consumed in agricultural lands in Turkey were measured. Fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium increase yield and quality. But, they contain some radionuclides. These radionuclides dissolve in water and first transport into plants and then transport from plants to humans. In the latest years, artificial fertilizing has replaced natural fertilizing in agriculture. Therefore, fruits and vegetables contain radionuclides those are found in artificial fertilizers. In this study, electrochemical deposition technique with alpha counting method was used for determining the radioactivity level of polonium in fertilizers. Radium, potassium and thorium concentrations were measured by gamma spectrometry. TSP, MAP, DSP,MKP, (15-15-15), (18-18-18), (20-20-20) compost fertilizers consumed at most has been analyzed and the results were evaluated with respect to human health.Item Levels of polonium-210 in the grapevine leaves in Alaşehir district of Turkey(Turkish Atomic Energy Authority, 2000-10) Gürboğa, Gülşen; Ölmez Aytaş, Şule; Bölüm YokThe objective of present work is the estimation of Po-210 (polonium) content in the edible grapevine leaves (Vitis vinifera, L.cv Sultana syn.) collected from Gediz plain in Western Turkey. Alaşehir District in Gediz plain is one of the most important wineculture region of Turkey. Grapevine leaves are important food material for Dolma in Turkish cuisine. Dolma is a name applied to such vegetables as grapevina leaves, cabbage leaves and green peppers stuffed groundmeat or spiked rice. Levels of Po-210 in the grapevine leaves had not been analyzed before in Turkey. In this study, after wet ashing of grapevine leaves, Po-210 was spontaneously plated onto a copper disc from dilute hydrochloric acid medium and deposited activity was measured. The results for Po-210 in the grapevine leaves are compared with the other foodstuff values in the literature.
